Mix-Mix: The Filipino Advnetures of a German-Jewish Boy

I gotta confess. I’ve been very bad.

My social media game has been abysmal for this show. I’ve not been posting or writing much of anything. Before you think that’s because I don’t want anyone to come see the show…just know that’s crazy talk. I love the show, love my cast, and would love to have people come. As of this writing, we’ve got 3 more weeks of performances so I hope you’ll make it out.

But let’s dig into why I’ve been so shitty at this marketing game this time around.

I’m gonna blame the schedule

First off…I started rehearsals for this show two days after our closing performance of Tiny Little Town. You wouldn’t think that’s a big deal, but it really was. I was excited to get back to this project, but it’s a really big shift in thinking/process, and as someone who hasn’t ever really jumped from gig to gig, it was a bit jarring.

Second, it was a strange process in that we had a 3 week workshop to block the entire thing in a rehearsal room, then we had 5 weeks off, then we came back with 8 rehearsals before we went into tech. This huge gap was because Jon had already booked another directing gig but this was the only window available to this show in LTC’s season, so it had to be here. This led to a rehearsal process that I’ve never really experienced before which presented a lot of challenges.

Honestly…I think that’s why I didn’t post anything. There was quite a bit of stress during those first 3 weeks and once we got back together, we were going full throttle to opening night. We were still getting costumes and props the day after opening. If I’m honest…it was a bit of a mess.

That said…I think the end result is a beautiful show. I’m not reading the reviews, and the rest of the pamilya has been good about not talking about them but my sense is they’ve been pretty good. We haven’t been filling up our 315 seat theatre, which bums me out, but they’ve been decent sized crowds. It would be nice to play this to packed houses. It’s an interesting dynamic at play because if you’re playing to a packed 88 seat house it feels full, but if you’re playing to a 1/3 full 315 seat theatre, it seems light…even though there are more people. :person_shrugging:

Who am I kidding?

I think the bigger problem is that I’m just…kinda…apathetic about social media. I do like to see the curated lives that my friends present (if only because it makes me feel like I’m in touch with them more than I am), funny cat videos, and gardening/woodworking videos…but I don’t really engage otherwise. And I’ve never been one to want to put my personal life out into the world. So while I do post…I do it just enough to look like I’m still a part of that world.

So back to Mix-Mix. I’ve taken a bunch of photos, as has the rest of the cast. So here’s the dump from rehearsals and elsewhere (click on an image to get the larger pic and the full caption). There’s the obligatory elevator shots after rehearsals…and a lot of food porn. For those of you who have never done a show with a group of Filipinos you’ll have to trust me when I say this is common . I’ve also thrown in some of the press pix so you can see what you’ll be missing if you can’t make it out. Though I hope you do.

One last plug…we run for 3 more weeks and every Thursday the tickets are just $10. So come on down and check it out.
