So my day job at Discourse has an Annual Company Meetup. Or did…before the pandemic hit. And they’re just now starting them back up. This is my first one and figured I should post some of my pix from the trip. I’m really excited to see Copenhagen. Not a place I’d ever thought to visit, but I’m looking forward to it.
Great pix! Let the fun begin!!
I’ve already realized how much more I like this than WordPress or a blog.
Walking around Malmo…mostly through a couple of parks. And yeah…Malmo is in Sweden. It’s a short train ride over and I figured ‘why not?’
Thursday
First we went to Tivoli Gardens. Had a great time on the rides, walking around and seeing the flora, and then grabbing a bite. It rained a little but nothing too bad. After that I took part in the Beer Tour. A tour of the city where we’d learn about the brewing history of areas we went, and then have a little taste. Of course we ended at a pub. Good times, good times. Though…I started feeling a bit tired as the day wore into evening.

Fuck.
Had a hard time sleeping through the night, sweating like I was trying to drop 15. Finally around 5am I gave up trying to get back to sleep and wondered if I might have Covid again. So I took a test.
Shit. Yup.
I fired off a text to Loretta hoping she’d see it during her layover in London and tried to sleep some more. Around 7am, I think, I messaged the gang that I wouldn’t be joining them for any more fun. That sucked. I had such a great time seeing and meeting everyone, and it ended with me stuck in a hotel room.
In the end…about 5 of us got stuck there and many, many more got sick by the time they went home. What a shitty way for it all to end. I’m eternally grateful that Discourse has said they’d ‘self-insure’ and cover our expenses if we got sick. And I’m also grateful someone told me about Wolt, the great food delivery app that was my savior for the next week.
So…I met Loretta in the lobby briefly, while double masked, and then she went to her own room. The next day, Saturday, double masked again, we took a little walk to a park and then went back to the hotel.
Then on Sunday…Loretta tested positive. We had already been trying to figure out what to do about our trip to Poland and this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. We cancelled the entire leg of our trip and settled into our rooms at the Villa Copenhagen.
We stayed in separate rooms for a few days and then once my 4 days of isolation were up, I moved into her room since that was on our dime. Then the hotel told us we had to split because they were all booked and needed the room back, so we moved to a hotel down the street. We mostly stayed in our room through Thursday, only walking down to a park where we could sit outside for a bit. On Friday we took our longest walk yet, to Rosenborg Castle (Rosenborg Slot) and The King’s Garden (Kovens Have), and some shops. It was nice.

Hamlet’s Castle.
Well…the castle that inspired the play. I wasn’t sure what we were gonna do this final day in Copenhagen. We’d been stuck in a hotel for most of the week only starting to venture out a bit more once I tested negative on Thursday and Loretta on Friday. Then Loretta suggested we take the 45 minute train trip up to Helsingør to visit Kronborg Castle. I was over the moon.
We walked through town on our way to the castle.
With that out of the way…we headed for the Castle. There were too many people for Loretta so she stayed outside the walls and walked around the water and grounds. I went all through the joint. Even down into the catacombs. Of course, I paid special attention to spots that might’ve been part of the play.
